Version 1.51 (065) of 2day now posted at www.shsh.com/beta
Some people say TAKEphONE is a great name, some say it stinks. A lot of people ask - “where did you get that name ?”
So - a little TAKEphONE history…
My first Palm device was the Handspring Visor, bought on a moments desicion - I was on reserve duty, bored, and when I was at Office Depot by chance - saw a box with a neat looking device, and bought it. Then I started reading about what the device can do, and decided to start writing apps for it - to pass time while I was on duty.
After a couple of days use, I noticed what I was missing was a way to add phone numbers & notes in a quick way. I wanted to write a small utility to allow jotting down phone numbers & names quickly using large on-screen buttons (no keyboards then…) so I can do it without using the stylus.
So - the first name was “Take note”, which converted to “Take phone”, and finally became “TAKEphONE”.
The first screen looked a lot like the current “Dial/Create” view of TAKEphONE, and all the app could do is let you tap in a phone number, then a name (using T9 like entry), then add it to the address-book. And then my day job barged in…
I was working at a company (Way2call) that developed external telephony boxes, capable of making phone calls on a analog line, recording, playing WAV files, and more. They connected to the PC via RS-232 (there wasnt even USB back then). The Visor had an RS-232 port for HotSyncing. A little hardware hacking, and I was able to connect such a box (called Hi-Phone) to my Visor. Some porting of Windows code, and my TAKEphONE app was able to make calls for me (and even RECORD them !).
So - I had a dialpad on screen, and it was able to start calls. Why not add another screen and make searches to the address-book in a T9-like fashion, then dialing ? Did that, added IrDA dialing using cellular phones - and now we have the TAKEphONE in it’s early form.
Later on - plunging into the SmartPhone arena…

I finally took the plunge…
After many requests from users of my products, I decided to do it - establish my own blog, and use it as a (yet another) mean to communicate with my users.
So the purpose of this blog is mainly communications - I will tell you a bit about myself, my company, why and how I do things, some history of ShSh and its products and - I suppose - other bits and pieces.
Oh, and yes - I will post here news about every product development - new releases, new beta builds, etc.
So - stay tuned.
And - thanks for supporting ShSh software - it’s been (and still is) a great expirience for me.
Shimon
